NEW FRONTIER

I began to plan a Bed and Breakfast from our home at the turn of the last century. This thing called the Internet was rapidly gaining popularity and travel directories provided immediate visibility via the Web.

It was a new Frontier.

The days of sending one’s brochure via snail-mail followed by telephone banter were soon to become a thing of the past.

Email was the new modus operandi.

The activity of hosting taught me much about myself. It proved where I needed to get better and highlighted the things I am good at doing. It soon became apparent that food prep and presentation were and continue to be my strong points and interest; closely followed by sitting on the sidewalk late afternoon, beverage in hand, in anticipation of my guests arrival! It’s been said that staying here is ”like staying with one’s friendly uncle!” I take that as a compliment .

In addition to operating my Montreal Bed and Breakfast, each season, I bake a limited quantity of artisanal fruitcakes for sale at Boulanger Bassin B&B and for mail-order in Canada and the U.S.A.

Handcrafted in small batches, my cakes are aged from several months to years, allowing for a dark, semi-moist texture.

Absent in these marvels are the candied fruits and artificial flavoring commonly found in mass produced varieties. I use only premier quality dried fruits and nuts which are soaked in various alcohols, contributing to an unparalleled taste experience.

Man of a 1000 Fruitcakes.

Ken, your host

Your arrival and check-in at the B&B will happen with the owner and operator of this Montreal Bed and Breakfast, a long-time resident of the Plateau who loves good company and will make you feel at home right away. Whether it’s making sure your car is correctly parked, receiving your room key, wifi, a walking map, or simply a welcoming chat over whatever we happen to be drinking at the time, Ken will make sure it’s to your satisfaction.

In addition to the many responsibilities of a successful innkeeper, Ken bakes a limited quantity of handcrafted fruitcakes, which are enjoyed all over the world. Each morning you will be treated to a sumptuous and varied breakfast by your host who has lived in the neighborhood since 1980 and given his knowledge of Montreal Le Plateau, will help to make your stay a fabulous time.
